Putin wants Russian govt to work out countermeasures to sanctions
VORONEZH, Aug 5 (PRIME) -- Russia must develop countermeasures to Western sanctions against the country, President Vladimir Putin said during his meeting with acting Voronezh Region Governor Alexei Gordeyev on Tuesday.
“I have given the order today,” Putin said. “Political instruments of pressuring the economy are unacceptable, they violate all laws and regulations. In this context, the Russian government had already suggested several countermeasures on the so-called sanctions from several countries.”
“I think that in current conditions we could think about that to protect the interests of domestic producers,” he said, adding that the answer to the sanctions must be careful and should not harm local producers.
Earlier on Tuesday, Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev said Russia should consider countermeasures against Western sanctions imposed on the country’s airlines, after Dobrolyot, a low-cost branch of national flag carrier Aeroflot, had to cease all flights in the wake of the E.U. against the company.
